Since its introduction in 2021, the New Balance ‘Protection Pack’ series has been one of the most sought-after releases for the brand. Originally named ‘Refined Future’, the concept is centered around designer Yue Wu’s observation that despite years of wear and tear, New Balance silhouettes always hold their original form. Since its launch, the ‘Protection Pack’ ideals stem from a deconstruction of famed silhouettes by adding raw-edged, distressed textures and considered detailing.
To celebrate 25 years of size? , we’re launching an ?exclusive of the Refined Future 2002r ‘Protection Pack’. This exclusive is set to a muted palette of earthy tones, drawing inspiration from core minerals and natural metals. Breathable mesh is layered with a mix of premium suedes, adding dimension and texture to the design, while touches of leather on the heel tab and exposed foam tongue conjure a luxurious finish. Cloud-like cushioning and all-day arch support come from the ABZORB midsole and N-ergy outsole that anchor the silhouette.
Drawing from the electric-lit metropolis, luxurious ‘Purple Burst’ suede envelopes the upper to create a rich backdrop to the silhouette. Nodding to the 2020 edition, serrated leather 3-Stripes strike the sidewall in orange with the traditional ‘Shanghai’ gold foil wordmark running parallel, while a touch of ‘Semi Blue Burst’ flashes at the heel. Leather lining and a special anniversary footbed add an elevated feel to the low-profile shoe, and underfoot, a rubber sole unit anchors the design. The silhouette arrives with two sets of laces and a special collector’s book, and to finish, ‘1/2025’ stamps the heel with gold foil script, alluding to only 2,025 pairs being in circulation.
