size? Celebrates Air Max Day

Last weekend, size? Canada celebrated Air Max Day in-store as the reissued and revamped launch of Nike’s very first Air Max 1 ‘86 OG “Big Bubble” made its return. Connecting with our community, our customers took to the streets, laced up and stepped out while repping their favourite pair of Air Max. We also celebrated with live music and surprise gifts for those who waited in line to cop the latest AM1s. So take a look below to see how we celebrated this year’s Air Max Day, and take a step back through time as we explore the evolution of Nike’s Air Max Day — and the shoe that started it all.

Iconic in many forms, the Nike Air Max has rightfully become a coveted model that has revolutionized the sneaker industry. Almost a decade into its annual anniversary, Nike Air Max Day taps into the shoe's rich history and invites newcomers and seasoned sneakerheads to discover new releases and look back at some of its most noteworthy silhouettes. Although this sneaker has been frequently redesigned throughout the decades, at the time, the OG Nike Air Max 1 was truly an avant-garde and futuristic idea that came into fruition on March 26th, 1987. The very first AM1 was originally made as a classic red and white running shoe, which soon after propelled us all into a new age where visible Air bubble cushioning became the norm.

Fast forward 36 years later and the Swoosh label has been able to cultivate countless iterations of the Air Max — expanding its bandwidth amongst some of the most acclaimed brands in the world. These collaborations have helped boost the Air Max’s already stellar reputation, resulting in the latest and greatest Air cushioning has to offer. Now, following the first Air Max Day on March 26th, 2014, Nike offers exclusive releases that either embark on OG heritage reissues, new silhouette debuts and as well exclusive collabs. From the Nike x Sean Wotherspoon Air Max 1 ‘97 to the Nike x Atmos Air Max 1 PRM “Elephant,” Air Max Day is an event that commemorates the original 1987 launch of the shoe with impeccable style.

Collectively, releases like these have turned into fond memories since the day began — adding to Nike’s immensely successful wheelhouse of Air Max releases each year. As Nike’s Air Max Day continues to push boundaries within the realms of shoe design, the anticipation and rebirth of the next iteration solidify these sneakers as a cultural icon, that’s truly augmented the sneaker community in an impactful way.
