Straight from the adidas Originals archive comes somewhat of a treasure. To celebrate 25 years of size?, we revisit the adidas Montreal 76, seven years since our original size? exclusive.

This silhouette has a pretty interesting backstory. Originally part of the German football team’s kit for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, adidas came up with something a little outside the box for the leisure shoe design. Perfect for downtime, the special sole unit meant the wearer could slip the shoe on and off without risking the structural integrity of the silhouette.

Things look pretty uniform on top with a supple suede upper, which comes in purple this time around. However, it’s the midsole where things start to stray from the usual low-profile setup. The textured rubber reaches up the heel, ending just below the heel tab, allowing the heel to be pushed down, giving you the option to wear it like a traditional trainer or mule style – ideal for off-duty athletes or those seeking a more casual look.
As for the rest of the shoe, perforations curve around the toe box, while visible stitching gives a subtle nod to football design cues. To finish, ‘Montreal 76’ gold foil wordmark embeds history into the silhouette above the leather 3-Stripes.
