Founded in 2016 out of Vancouver, BC, Taikan has spent the past few years crafting essential everyday bags with a combination of functional design and premium make. Taikan (pronounced taken) was conceived by one of Vancouver’s cultural curators, Garret “GMAN” Louie, with the intent of creating products that share the same elevated aesthetic, attention to detail, and trusted quality as some of his favourite Japanese imprints, but are more accessible. Tapping into Louie’s multifaceted background, Taikan incorporates his links to fashion, music, art, and skate culture into one cohesive brand.
Taikan bags have shown clear consideration from the beginning, pairing utility with durable materials and hardware, on designs that are just as stylish as they are functional. Their core range offers a selection of ballistic nylon bags that are each as versatile as the other, and guarantees something for everyone.
Now established in the bag game, Taikan’s 009 collection may be their biggest yet as it features their first line of apparel. Crafted with the same mentality as their bags, each garment shares the brand’s take on classic styles and is made to stand the test of time. Genderless designs feature relaxed fits that can be styled however you want and made your own.
In addition to their core line of staples, Taikan also works with some of today’s preeminent artists under their collaborative TAIKAN By project, which allows creatives complete freedom on their interpretations of Taikan products. 009 features collaborations with RHEK, Booyah Patrol, Gene Pool, and Kyle Stewart across a range of tees and hoodies that reflect the artists’ signature styles.
